We wanted to start doing a deep dive into some of the active ingredients we use in our formulations to further explain why we included said ingredients, and to help educate our customers.
Just to give you a recap of our background- Carli and I worked in product development for the past six years. We worked with several prestige indie haircare and skincare brands, and had the privilege to learn from cosmetic chemists that educated us on active ingredients.
Our focus with this brand is to create products that are actually efficacious and to always use active levels of powerhouse ingredients.
Today I want to focus on colloidal oatmeal because its the main active in our pet shampoo, and arguably the most important.
In skincare products colloidal oatmeal, when used over 1%, is actually considered a drug which is why you will see a drug facts panel on the primary packaging (like in this Aveeno lotion). That is because its a known skin protectant that helps relieve dry and itchy skin, and works wonders on eczema.
Even in rinse off products, like shampoo, colloidal oatmeal immediately calms dry skin and forms a protective layer that helps keep moisture in the skin and hair.
Its perfect for dogs with sensitive skin as its hypoallergenic and can help alleviate any irritation your dog may have from allergies or excessive itching.
We have almost 3% colloidal oatmeal in our pet shampoo which you won't see in many other brands because its costly to include high levels of specialized ingredients. But again, it's important for us to make sure our products are actually helping your pets.
We even had a customer tell us they were able to switch from their prescription medicated anti-itch shampoo to our Clean Coats shampoo and it has the same effect on their pups skin and coat, which was amazing to hear.
Let us know if you have any questions! We'd love to hear from you.
